Desert Hunting

Every year we take a road trip for me to source for my jewelry. Those of you who know me, know I love hand selecting every stone I use; so much raw beauty exists in rocks and crystals, and I look for minerals that speak to me in different ways. It is so hard to do that most of the year, and my husband and I travel far and wide to make sure we stay true to the design aesthetic of Desert Daisy. But, each January we head down with the snow birds and rock hounds and spend a few days in the land of RVs.

For many designers, Tucson is the motherload of gem shows. But, for me, it’s Quartzsite, AZ. Nowhere in the world is like this desert oasis for RVs. I spend days chatting with miners and collectors and just rock nerding out. Last year we were crunched into 1 1/2 days, so this year with 3 whole days, I felt like we had all the time in the world.

We travelled down to Parker and stayed in a nice little airbnb on the river. We decided the luxury of a kitchen and coffee in the morning was worth a little 40 minute drive down to Quartzsite every day. The desert is so pretty there, and you can tell from the lovely sunsets we saw that we enjoyed every minute of the drive.
